THEATRE STARTS NEW TRADITION
Nov 25 2006 - Cordele Dispatch
CORDELE— A new tradition has begun. Spolight Theatres is going to make Christmas magical for 50 children in the community.
Stadium 5 co-owner Lori Brian explains, “we have a really nice Christmas Tree in the theatre lobby with 50 special angels hanging from it. Each angel represents a child in Cordele that might not otherwise have Christmas gifts.”
Participants are invited to pick an angel from the tree. The first name of a child, his or her age, gender, and wish list will be provided. When gifts are returned to the theatre, Spotlight Theatres gives the donor a complimentary ticket to the movie of his or her choice for their kindness.
“Fifty children will be surprised when our little movie theatre makes this Christmas special for them,” Brian said. Friday morning, there were only five angels left on the tree, she added.
All gifts need to be returned by Dec. 14 so the theatre can get them to the Gateway Center, which provided the local children’s names and wishes. All kids are either in foster care or on financial aid in Cordele.
Just in time for the holidays, “The Nativity Story” will be showing starting Friday for two to three weeks. Lori also announced that “ like with Facing the Giants, groups of 25 or more get special pricing and are strongly encouraged to book well in advance.” For more information concerning the Angel giving Tree or ticket information, contact the theatre at 271-9352 for group reservations, private showings and pricing.
