SPOTLIGHT THEATRES CELEBRATED FIRST YEAR

CORDELE— Spotlight Theatres threw a grand birthday party Saturday afternoon to celebrate its first year in business.

Birthday cake inside the theatre was enjoyed by patrons who attended the first movie showings of the day. Music to “get down” with was provided by “Sound Patrol”.

“Icee the Bear,” would come out into the hot sun for short appearances, but because Polar Bears need to stay cool, he would venture back inside the theatre and greet children enjoying the festivities in a more comfortable environment. The celebration was also marked by the unveiling of a new Spotlight Theatres sign on the side of the building.

Merchants from Cordele Square were giving away soda can “wraps,” cool movie stuff, phone books and other items. People snacked on free barbecue sandwich samples which were provided by L-Bo’s in the parking lot at Cordele Square with Cokes available which was a welcome addition on a hot afternoon.

Theatre co-owner Lori Brian said, “ To help celebrate our first birthday in Cordele, we allowed the first 350 customers to get in free Saturday. This is our family’s way of giving back to the community— our thank you for supporting our family and the theatre’s first year.”

Shebra Sanders of Cordele was thrilled over the Birthday Bash saying, “We thank Lori for bringing a theatre back here! Without the theatre opening back up, kids would be out on the streets getting into trouble.”

Brian commented, “Cordele wanted its own movie theatre again and as long as the schools, churches, businesses and citizens of Cordele continue to support the theatre, we will be able to continue to keep the theatre open and offer all of Cordele first run movies in a safe and comfortable family atmosphere for many years to come.”

She also added, “We welcome school and recreation center field trips here as well as family reunions, birthday parties and other group events along with those just bringing their own families to the movies regularly.”
